In 1925, Ashfaqulla Khan, along with Ramprasad Bismil Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajendra Lahiri, and others, planned and executed what is now known as the Kakori Conspiracy. The aim of the conspiracy was to loot a train carrying British government money and use the funds to finance the revolutionary activities of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA).
On 9th August 1925, Ashfaqulla Khan and his fellow revolutionaries stopped the train at Kakori, near Lucknow, and looted the government treasury. However, they were soon caught by the British authorities, and several of them, including Ashfaqulla Khan, were arrested and sentenced to death.
